St Bartholomew’s Ladies Guild

January 2012

The Reverend Allen Taylor kindly celebrated Holy Communion for us prior to the meeting in the Church Hall. Anne Pretty opened the meeting, wishing everyone a Happy New Year and welcoming two guests who it is hoped will subsequently become members. The first event of the year is the "All day Pancake Party" at the vicarage which is on Tuesday 21st February (Shrove Tuesday) this a combined event with the Mother's Union. All are welcome to drop in for a Pancake (or two), a cuppa and a chat, and also have a go on the Chocolate Tombola!  A good way to start Lent !

Janet reported that she had attended a Town meeting about arrangements for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. This takes place the first weekend of June and there is a further meeting in the Croft on 26th January to discuss how the Church will participate. We then split into groups for the Winter "armchair " Olympics! All sorts of games were played - Mexican Train, Rumicub, cards and Jenga and Dominos. There was a lot of noise and laughter especially when the Jenga towers collapsed. The tongues were the things to get the most excercise !! Everyone was so engrossed in whatever game they were playing that no one went to collect their coffee and biscuits - so Grace and Daphne did a splendid job with "silver service" . It was a most enjoyable evening.

Next month we welcome Michael Page who will be telling us about his experiences of being Head Verger at St Paul's Cathedral. We are very much looking forward to his talk on Wednesday 15th February which will follow A celebration of Holy Communion in the Church at 7.15pm.

As we prepare for Lent and start to grow our Easter Garden would it not be a good time to also prepare our own "Garden of Daily Living" along side ?
