The Church Year

Pentecost > >

Easter Day

Three days after being crucified (on Good Friday), Jesus rose from the dead, bringing the promise of new life for all. He met his disciples again, and spoke with them. It is the greatest day of celebration in the church year, and begins with a service in the darkness and with the lighting of a huge candle to symbolise the light of Christ overcoming the darkness.

The colour changes again to gold and white, the church will be filled with flowers, and the celebrations continue in church for 6 more weeks.

Ascension Day is always on a Thursday 6 weeks after Easter and is when we remember that the risen Jesus returned to heaven, leaving His disciples the task of teaching others about the new life He offers us all.
