Lay Minister -
Lay Ministers, until very recently known as Readers, are licensed by the Bishop to a particular parish. They undertake a number of tasks within the church, such as preaching at any service, assisting with the distribution of the Communion elements, taking non Eucharistic services and organising other events such as seasonal study courses or the leading of small house groups, as requested by their Vicar.
Lay ministers also conduct home communion visits taking previously consecrated bread and wine to individuals or to places such as retirement homes.
They are also permitted to conduct funerals and undertake pastoral visiting under the guidance of the Vicar.
